New Nigeria Digital Postal Code: How to Get Your House 11-Character Code on postcode.gov.ng
BREAKING: As of October 1st, 2026, Nigeria has officially launched a new digital postal code for every house. No more "beside blue gate" or "after the junction" directions. The Federal Government through NIPOST has given every building its own 11-character alphanumeric code.
What is the New Nigeria Digital Postal Code?
The National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System (NDAPS) is a new GIS-enabled addressing system built by NIPOST, approved by the Federal Executive Council in March 2026 and launched nationwide on Independence Day, October 1, 2026, by Minister of Communications, Dr. Bosun Tijani.
Unlike the old 6-digit postcode that covers thousands of houses, this new code pinpoints your exact building. NIPOST says Nigeria loses ₦50bn to ₦80bn every year due to failed deliveries because of bad addressing. This system will fix that.
How Does The 11-Character Code Work? (5 Levels)
The code is not random. It follows 5 levels that zoom from State to your door:
- Level 1 - STATE: First 2 letters (e.g. FC = Federal Capital Territory, LA = Lagos, KD = Kaduna)
- Level 2 - LGA: Local Government Area number
- Level 3 - District: District code
- Level 4 - Area: Area/Street cluster
- Level 5 - Building: Your specific house/building number
Example: FC 02 A09 DB 09 means Federal Capital Territory, LGA 02, District A09, Area DB, Building 09. The code belongs to the building, not the person. If you move, you use your new house code.
How to Find Your Own House Code (Step-by-Step)
- Go to official portal: postcode.gov.ng or postcode.gov.ng/find
- Allow location access or type your current address
- Verify your building on the map (satellite view)
- Click "Get Code" - Your 11-character code will appear
- Copy, Save, and start using it for Jumia, Uber, DHL, Bank KYC
Tip: You can also use the NIPOST Postcode mobile app and even USSD for non-smartphones. It's 100% FREE for individuals.

Important Notes
- It does NOT replace your street address or Google Maps. It works WITH them as a standard layer.
- Businesses, banks, and e-commerce platforms can integrate it into their systems via API.
- Every addressable building in 36 states + FCT is covered.
